法新社报导，川普亲自带领媒体参观位于白宫南草坪的的停机坪。
身兼房地产大亨的川普（Donald Trump）告诉记者说：“建设就是我的专长！”
川普说，之所以需要打造花岗岩材质停机坪，是因为新型“陆战队一号”直升机将开始服役，它在降落时可能灼坏白宫南草坪。“现在有了花岗岩停机坪，草坪受损问题就解决了。”

新停机坪的图形设计从空中看来，是一颗巨大的美国总统印章。一旁有一块鹰头形碑石，川普随后在这块碑石上签名。
法新社指出，为了铺设新停机坪，经由工人铲除了部分具有历史意义的草坪。
这片草坪曾见证1974年时任总统尼克森（Richard Nixon）下台离开白宫的历史片段，也见证1993年奥斯陆（Oslo）协议签署的历史时刻，那是以色列与巴勒斯坦解放组织达成的重要和平协议。
